The Romans made a lasting impact on the face of Britain. They founded towns, built forts, and laid out roads. Some Roman remains can still be seen above ground, archaeology year by year is revealing more, and museums have remarkable collections of Roman objects. On this site the Roman Research Trust and York Archaeological Trust introduce the world of Roman Britain.
We hope that the information presented here will be helpful to teachers, students and travellers planning a visit to Roman remains.
The information is presented in a series of eight major themes (shown on the menu on the left). Additional sections provide further information.
